Hey everyone, I'm facing a frustrating issue with my PC where it randomly hard restarts while gaming, but it remains stable during stress tests. Here are my specs:
- CPU: Ryzen 7 7800X3D
- GPU: RX 9070 XT
- Motherboard: MSI MAG B650 Tomahawk WiFi
- RAM: Corsair 32GB (2x16GB) DDR5 6000 CL36 (EXPO disabled, running at 4800)
- PSU: Chieftec 1200W 80+ Platinum (I recently upgraded from an 850W)
- OS: Windows 11
The main problem is that my PC only crashes during gameplay, specifically in titles like BeamNG and VR games. There's no BSOD—just an instant black screen followed by a reboot. I've checked the temperatures and they seem normal.
I've already tried a few things:
- Swapped out the PSU from 850W to 1200W
- Disabled EXPO and PBO
- Did a clean GPU driver install with DDU, and also tested some older drivers
- Undervolted the GPU
- Made sure all cables are secure (using three separate PCIe cables)
Despite all this, stress tests (using OCCT for CPU and GPU) and idle performance remain stable—it's only during actual gameplay that I'm encountering these issues. Any insights or similar experiences?

You could check the Event Viewer on Windows. Go to 'Windows Logs', click on 'Applications', and look for any error messages associated with your crashes.
You might want to try removing one RAM stick at a time to see if the crashes continue. If you have an older GPU lying around, testing that could also help identify the problem.
Yeah, that's actually what I was about to suggest! Another option is to create a MemTest86 USB drive. That helped me find out which of my RAM sticks was faulty.
Right now, I'm planning to try the RAM method. I recently switched from a 3070 to the 9070 XT, and the reboots started happening right after that upgrade.

I found a kernel error 41(63) in the logs, but surprisingly, there aren’t any errors showing up right before the restarts.
