Why Does My PC Restart When Load Changes?

Hey everyone! I've been dealing with a really frustrating issue ever since I built my PC a little over a year ago. I've experienced random crashes that seem to happen primarily when the system's load suddenly changes—either dropping or increasing. For example, it often crashes when I Alt+Tab out of a game, enter loading screens, or switch between windows. The crashes usually result in an instant reboot without a Blue Screen of Death (BSOD), and the Event Viewer consistently logs Kernel-Power 41 errors. The system performs well during prolonged heavy gaming sessions without issues, but the transitions between loads are where it gets unstable.

Here are my specs: AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, ASUS TUF Radeon RX 7900 GRE, DDR5 RAM, and a Cooler Master 850W PSU. I've monitored temperatures, done stability tests, and made sure everything runs at stock settings. The BIOS is up to date as well. I'm trying to figure out if the problem could be related to the power supply's response to load changes or if it might be a motherboard issue. Has anyone experienced similar problems or have any ideas on what I should check? I'd appreciate any insights!

Yeah, this definitely sounds like a PSU transient response issue, especially with your powerful GPU. The 850W might be sufficient, but if it struggles with quick load changes, that could be causing the crashes. You might want to look for PSUs known for good transient response if you end up needing a replacement!

I was thinking the same thing! If I have to change it, I'm hoping to find something that handles those spikes better. Do you know if certain brands are more reliable for that than others?

It sounds like a possible power supply (PSU) issue to me. Given your setup with a high-demand GPU, the PSU might not be reacting quickly enough to sudden load changes. If you can, try swapping it out for a known good one to see if that resolves the issue. By the way, it's great to see such a detailed post—it really helps in diagnosing the problem!

Thanks for the advice! I've been keeping an eye on things and you're probably right—swapping the PSU might be the best next step. I thought I chose a solid unit, but maybe it’s not handling the load transitions as well as it should.
