Why Does My PC Stutter When Gaming with Friends but Not Alone?

I've noticed that whenever I play games with friends, my PC starts to stutter, but when I'm gaming solo or with random players, everything runs super smoothly. This issue first popped up during the Black Ops 7 beta and has continued with games like Dead by Daylight and Battlefield 6. What could be causing this?

Are you using a wired connection or relying on WiFi? Sometimes the network setup can make a huge difference in performance when gaming with others.

I'm actually plugged into the router and have decent speeds - around 500 up and down.

That's odd! Do you use Discord for voice chat? Sometimes that can interfere with your PC's performance, especially if you're running a lot of processes. Maybe try closing it and see if it helps. If your PC is newer, there shouldn't be any issues unless there are conflicts.

It turns out it's Discord! As soon as I left the chat, the game ran smoothly again. Any ideas for a workaround? It wasn't like this a few months ago.

Pro tip: if it isn't Discord, it's usually Discord! Might need to check your settings.
