I'm building my first PC and planning to use a Ryzen 5 9600X CPU with a potential MSI Tomahawk B850 motherboard. I'm not quite sure about CPU coolers and would appreciate any suggestions or advice on what would work best for my setup. If I need to consider changing any components, I'd like to hear about that too!

Definitely go for a dual tower cooler if you can, like the Thermalright PA120 or PS120. They'll give you solid performance on a CPU with a 65W TDP, and you can usually find them at a decent price.
The Peerless Assassin is a popular choice right now. Lots of users have had great experiences with it for cooling Ryzen CPUs like yours.
I've also heard good things about the Peerless Assassin. A lot of the community seems to recommend it, so you might want to consider it.
