Why does my PC turn off after a few minutes of use?

I've been facing a really baffling issue with my PC. Soon after powering it on, it successfully boots up and I can get to my desktop. However, after just a couple of minutes, it shuts down. This pattern repeats about 3 times before it finally stays on for the rest of the day. I'm not seeing any indicators of an error on the motherboard, which is leaving me puzzled. I'm starting to wonder if the PSU might be the culprit, but since it operates fine afterward, I'm not entirely sure. I'm also concerned about inconsistent voltage possibly damaging my components. Here are my specs; I built this rig about 4-5 years ago:
- RM750 PSU
- X570 Aorus elite wifi Motherboard
- 8x4 8GB DDR4 3200 RAM
- Ryzen 7 5800X
- 3070TI
- 500GB NVMe SSD for C drive
- 4TB SSD for storage and two 2TB HDDs

It’s strange that it stays on after a few reboots. If it’s failing under a cold boot, it might still be the PSU. I'd suggest replacing it sooner rather than later to prevent any potential damage to other components. You could also check the connections and clear out any dust that may be clogging up the airflow.

Using a tool like Core Temp for monitoring, my idle temps are around 42°C and I’m seeing about 38W. The GPU idles at around 30°C.

I had a similar issue with my setup. What worked for me was to disassemble and reassemble the PC. During this process, I reapplied thermal paste on the CPU and cleaned out all the dust. Since then, it hasn’t happened again! It's definitely worth trying to see if that helps you out.

That's a solid troubleshooting step! Cleaning and reapplying thermal paste can really make a difference.

What thermal paste do you recommend using for the CPU?

It sounds like your PC is experiencing a power delivery or stability issue during the initial boot. Since it can post and then shuts down a few times before stabilizing, it probably isn’t a PSU failure under load. It could be an issue with voltage variation or just some initial hiccup with memory or CPU startup. I'd suggest checking the following: update your motherboard BIOS to the latest version, ensure all power cables are securely connected, and try reseating your GPU. Running a memory test could also be helpful. Keep an eye on temps and voltages right after boot to check for anything unusual. If it continues, testing with another PSU might be the next step to rule out voltage problems.

Have you checked the temperature yet? That could also be a clue.

If you boot into BIOS, do you experience the same shutdown issues?
