Last week, I was chatting with ChatGPT about some issues I was facing. During our conversation, it actually asked if it could check back with me later, and I thought that was a great idea! So, I told it to follow up before 9 PM. However, it never did. When I asked about it later, it apologized and said it would do better next time, but since then, I've asked multiple times and have never received a follow-up. Is there any way to make this feature work as I expected?

Unfortunately, it looks like ChatGPT can't really check in on you like that. It's designed to respond to prompts in the moment, but it doesn’t have a built-in timer feature. So, if you want it to remind you, you need to chat with it again and initiate the interaction.
You're right to feel frustrated! Right now, ChatGPT doesn't have a real concept of time, so when it says it will get back to you, it's just mimicking human responses. It doesn’t actually remember or understand future events, so those promises don't really mean anything to it.
ChatGPT is just spitting out responses based on patterns it learned from training. It may say it will check back, but it doesn't have the ability to actually do so in a time-aware way. I used to test a different model that could somewhat schedule reminders – it actually worked! But that feature doesn’t seem to be part of the current versions. It's promising for the future though; maybe one day it will handle time-based requests better!
Thanks for the insight! I remember that task function too, I wonder why they removed it.
