Why don’t vacuum brands offer standardized live cleaning tests?

Why aren't there more in-store or public demonstrations where manufacturers scatter crumbs, dust, and small bits of debris around furniture and under obstacles, then let shoppers try the latest vacuum cleaners themselves? A hands-on test would make it much easier to judge real cleaning performance, maneuverability, noise, and weight instead of relying mostly on marketing claims or online reviews.

Public demonstrations used to be more common at state fairs and similar events, where companies could show off household appliances directly. They may be less visible now because retail stores have limited space and many shoppers research products online before buying.

Independent testing organizations effectively do this on a larger scale. They compare vacuums using consistent debris, carpets, hard floors, edges, and other conditions, so those evaluations can be more useful than a short store demonstration.

Some brands do offer this, especially in dedicated stores or larger shopping centers. Demo areas may include cereal, dust, and different flooring surfaces so people can push the vacuum themselves. The bigger issue is that many manufacturers prefer polished demonstrations rather than letting customers discover how noisy, heavy, or awkward a machine feels in normal use.

A vacuum convention with every brand cleaning the same mess on the same flooring would be incredibly useful. It would make comparisons much fairer and save people from watching endless review videos.
