Why is Apple denying my request to unlock my phone after being scammed?

I'm really confused and frustrated with Apple's support right now. I live in Russia, and after Apple stopped selling products here due to the war in Ukraine, I bought an iPhone 17 Pro Max that was originally purchased in Japan but sold here through a retailer. I've got all the proof of purchase and warranty registration, so I know I'm the legal owner.

Unfortunately, I got scammed! I was tricked into logging into someone else's iCloud account, and now my phone is locked. I've reached out to Apple support twice, submitting all my documents and evidence, including my purchase receipt and communication with the scammers. However, both times I've been denied help without any clear explanation.

There are other people in the same boat as me, with phones linked to the same fraudulent account, yet Apple isn't helping us. I just don't understand why they can't unlock my phone when I've provided all this information. It's under warranty, and I paid a lot for it. What else do they need? Why does Apple seem to be ignoring customers like me in Russia?

It sounds really frustrating! But just a heads up, the support page clearly states that if your device is in "Lost Mode," they can't process the unlock request. That's probably why they denied your application. It seems unfair though, especially with how easily scammers can activate that mode.

That's a good point. But it's also crazy that Apple lets anyone put a phone in 'Lost Mode' just by accessing it. They really should have more security measures in place, like two-factor authentication on such important actions.
