I've recently built a new PC and got a new monitor with HDR capabilities. After a fresh install of Windows 11 and downloading the NVIDIA software, I've encountered a frustrating issue. Whenever I enable HDR in Windows, everything appears grey, whether it's videos or games. My monitor indicates that HDR is active, but it just doesn't look right. I've turned off Auto HDR and completed the HDR calibration, adjusting the color saturation, but it remains washed out. Additionally, the RTX HDR option in the NVIDIA app is greyed out, preventing me from mapping HDR to SDR games. Can someone explain why this is so complicated? It feels like such a basic feature isn't functioning properly with two giant companies involved.

Have you checked the error message that appears when you hover over the RTX HDR option? It can give you clues on what Windows or NVIDIA settings need adjusting to get it working. I've found that can help unlock the option if it's greyed out. Just follow the instructions that pop up when you see that icon.
I'd also recommend looking into your BIOS settings. Sometimes changes there can affect performance and features like HDR, but be careful—back up your data first if you're going to tinker with BIOS!
Have you tried using a different HDMI cable? Sometimes the cable can make a big difference. Also, double-check your monitor settings to make sure everything is configured correctly for HDR. There are often specific settings you need to toggle on your monitor for HDR to work properly.

I've seen that message too. I turned off Auto HDR like it suggested, but it's still grey. I've also made sure that scaling and DSR are turned off, but no luck.
