Why is my 1.4 GB file download taking up to 14 hours?

I'm having a serious issue with downloading files on my laptop. It takes me an astonishing NINE HOURS to download a 1.4 GB file, even though I have what should be a super fast internet connection—2401 Mbps on my network's technology. I'm connected via Ethernet, and my laptop's download speed is around 892 Mbps and upload speed is 515 Mbps. Yet somehow, I still end up waiting up to 13 hours for a download to complete. I started looking into it and discovered that my actual internet download speed is dropping to a measly 1 Mbps for some reason. It's definitely not the Wi-Fi since I can download files quickly on my phone. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on?

What file are you trying to download and where is it from? If it's a torrent or a less popular server, the speed could really drop if there are few seeds. Files from popular sources like Windows or Ubuntu typically download much faster because they have robust server support.

What you're likely seeing is your Wi-Fi speed connection to the router, which isn't the same as your actual internet speed from your ISP. It could be helpful to run a speed test directly on your device to see what your real download speed is. Also, remember that a VPN can help sometimes if you're having speed issues.

The speed you're experiencing can depend heavily on the server you're downloading from. Even with a lightning-fast internet connection, if the server can only send data at a slower rate, that's your limiting factor. You might be trying to get a file from a place that just can't handle high speeds. A lot of large companies have powerful servers, so try downloading a file from one of them to see if the speed improves.

If your download speed over Ethernet is showing just 1 Mbps, it could suggest an issue with your Ethernet connection. Make sure the cable is CAT6 and properly connected. Also, check your network settings on Windows to ensure that the Speed & Duplex setting isn't capped at 10Mbps. That could be a simple fix for your problem.
