I have a 2020 MacBook Air (13 inch) and for the past few years, it has been overheating really quickly. In the beginning, it would only get hot under heavy use, but now it overheats even when I just have a few browser tabs open. The fans kick in and become really loud, especially when it's charging. This issue is so distracting that I often have to stop using it in class because everyone turns to look when the fans start. I'm curious about what might be causing this. I've heard things like dirty fans or using Chrome instead of Safari can contribute to overheating. Any thoughts?

Just to clarify, the MacBook Air should not have fans if you have the M1 model. It’s possible that you have one of the Intel versions, which do have fans. If your laptop is making noise, it’s likely a sign of stress on the hardware. You might want to consider cleaning out the interior or even upgrading to a newer model if this keeps happening!
It sounds like your MacBook might be having some overheating issues due to a couple of reasons. If you have dirty fans, that can definitely cause it to overheat since dust buildup prevents proper airflow. Consider using a can of compressed air to clean out the vents. Also, using Chrome can consume a lot of resources, which might be making the overheating worse. Switching to Safari or cutting down on browser tabs could help.

Yeah, I've been thinking about that too. If I can't solve the overheating, I'm definitely looking into getting a new laptop.
