Why is my 5-year-old PC shutting down after just one minute?

My PC, which is about five years old, has started shutting down unexpectedly after just one minute of being powered on. This issue began after I restarted it because it was running really slowly. Now, I can't keep it on for more than a minute. I'm looking for ideas on what might be causing this problem.

It sounds like your computer might be overheating. That can definitely cause it to shut off to protect itself from damage. You might want to check the fans and ensure they’re working properly or that they’re not blocked by dust.

Another possibility is the RAM might be faulty. I had a similar issue, and once I removed a couple of RAM sticks, my PC started working fine again.

Interesting! I might give that a try if I can't solve it another way.

Don’t forget to replace the thermal paste on the CPU. After a while, it can dry out and lose effectiveness, which could lead to overheating.

That could be the case, but I’d also consider checking the power supply. If it's failing, it might not be providing enough power for your system to stay on.

Good point! I hadn't thought of that. I'll definitely look into the power supply.
