I'm dealing with a frustrating issue on my Dell desktop running Windows 11. My hard drive is split into a (C:) drive with 102 GB and a (D:) drive with 931 GB. I keep running out of space on my (C:) drive, even after moving all my pictures, videos, documents, and downloads to the (D:) drive. I've deleted browsing data from my two browsers and at one point, I had 1.2 GB free on (C:), but after just an hour of use, I'm back down to 0 bytes available. I do a lot of streaming, and I'm starting to think there might be large files accumulating from that. Is there some sort of hidden files or caches I should be looking into? I've deleted apps like Spotify and moved everything from my desktop to (D:). Oh, and I use OneDrive. Can anyone help me figure out what files I should target to free up consistent space on (C:)? Thanks!

Have you checked your virtual memory settings? If C: is filling up, it might help to limit the size of your pagefile there. Also, make sure you're moving any installed programs from C: over to D:. Don't forget to clear temporary files and browser caches—they can build up over time. Using a tool like WizTree can be really useful to find large files. Just remember, don’t delete system files like pagefile.sys or hiberfil.sys!
You might have encountered a known issue where Windows updates fill the (C:) drive unexpectedly, especially if you have a lot of apps installed. Check if your OneDrive is retaining local copies and consider cleaning that up. If you're not technical, think about getting some help to repartition your drives to better manage your space.
Definitely get that backup sorted before making major changes!
You should definitely run a disk cleanup and see if that reveals any unnecessary files taking up space. After that, consider using disk space analyzers like Windirstat to pinpoint what's taking up so much room. And if you have any backup software from Dell, those could be creating backups that fill your drive. It might be time to disable those or at least figure out where they’re stored to clear some space!
It sounds like you really need to manage your space better for Windows 11. 102 GB is pretty tight! Even if you free up space, Windows updates can quickly fill it up again. Make sure that OneDrive isn't keeping local copies of everything—that could be adding to the usage on (C:). You might also want to consider moving more files to (D:) or even upgrading your (C:) drive or resizing the partitions to give (C:) more space. Ideally, you should keep at least 15% of the drive free for smooth performance.
Honestly, 100 GB isn’t enough for a boot drive with Windows 11. If it's full, it often backs up and tries to run updates, which can cause it to fill up again rapidly. Many users are recommended to have at least 256 GB for optimal performance. Consider simplifying your setup—why not allocate the entire disk to (C:) and avoid these recurring issues? You may want to shrink the (D:) partition, but it's tricky if there are system files in between.
I get that! But it came pre-configured this way and I've had no issues until now.
That's surprising, but it seems things have changed with the updates lately. It might just be a matter of configuration.

That sounds like a solid plan! I’ll look into that.
