I noticed my C drive storage is mysteriously decreasing, and I'm not downloading anything new. It started last night when I had about 5GB free, but today I'm getting notifications to free up space again. I managed to clear it back to 1GB, but it keeps dropping, even after running Disk Cleanup and deleting some temp files. I also updated my laptop last night—could that be connected? I ran WizTree but feel lost. What can I do?

Make sure to also run Disk Cleanup as an admin and delete old restore points. This can clear out more space and help manage what’s cluttering your drive without removing your personal files.
Losing less than 1GB isn’t too alarming. Windows might be using that space for system processes or paging files since you’re running low. It’s recommended to keep at least 20-30% of your drive free to avoid these issues in the future.
That makes a lot of sense, thanks for pointing that out!
Try using WizTree or Directory Report to see what’s eating up your space. These programs can provide a clear picture of what's using your storage. Just be cautious with what you delete from system folders.
I hear you, I’m trying to be careful with system files! I'll give those programs a shot.
If your C drive is a mechanical HDD, consider the possibility that it’s beginning to fail. Windows marks bad sectors as unusable, which could explain the sudden loss of free space. It might be worth checking disk health if the problem persists.
It sounds like temporary files could be to blame, especially since there's been a recent update from Microsoft. Those updates often involve a lot of changes and can take up space. Since you mentioned you deleted some temp files, it might help to check again after the update.
I did delete temp files, but I guess you're right about the update! My storage seems to be slowly increasing, now at 1GB free.

Thanks for the tip! I'll definitely try that to free up more space.
