Why is my computer running so slow after hitting 100°C?

Hi everyone! I'm using a Quad-core Intel N100 for coding and occasionally doing some video editing and rendering with Blender and Resolve. It's been running okay for me until now, but I've been diving into machine learning and using a VPS for training. Since I'm on a budget as a student, I'm trying to train my Age Recognition model on my N100.

Recently, I've noticed that the temperatures were averaging around 95°C during training. One day, I left it running all day and came back to find the temps peaked at about 100°C, reaching a maximum of 102°C. I shut it down immediately to cool off, but even after multiple reboots, the system feels sluggish. Could the high temperatures have damaged something like the NVMe or RAM?

The max operating temperature for that CPU is around 105°C, so while you were close, it shouldn't have harmed the CPU just yet. However, you definitely want to look into fixing that overheating issue to keep everything running smoothly.

It sounds like you might be experiencing thermal throttling. When the CPU gets too hot, it automatically slows down to prevent damage, which could explain why your system feels sluggish now. Are you noticing it sluggish even when you’re not pushing it hard?

Yeah, it's sluggish all the time since then.
