Why is my CPU and GPU utilization so low in some games?

Hey everyone! After recently upgrading my PC, I've noticed some strange behavior with low CPU and GPU usage during gameplay, especially in games like Arc Raiders and League of Legends. I'm focusing on Arc Raiders since it's a new title and reportedly better optimized, which makes it a good reference point.

Before the upgrade, my setup included a Ryzen 5700G processor, 32 GB RAM, an RTX 3060 Ti, and a 1080p 144Hz monitor. Now, my upgraded setup features a Ryzen 5700G, 32 GB RAM, an RTX 5070 EAGLE OC, and a 1440p 165Hz monitor.

While performance at 1440p has improved, I'm getting around 80–90 FPS in Arc Raiders with DLSS Quality. However, I've seen benchmarks showcasing 140+ FPS for similar setups. My performance monitoring indicates that my CPU is at 60–65% usage and my GPU is at 40–60% during gameplay, with both temperatures looking fine. I've set everything for maximum performance, but the FPS still seems underwhelming.

Any ideas on what could be causing this bottleneck or low performance?

Check if you have vsync enabled in your games. Vsync can cap your FPS to about half your monitor's refresh rate if the graphics card can't keep up. I’ve experienced something similar with games like Fallout 76. If you need vsync, try disabling it in the game settings and enable it in the NVIDIA control panel instead.

Vsync is disabled in the games and in the NVIDIA settings, so that shouldn't be it. But I’ll keep looking into it!

Have you tried using the DDU tool to clean out the old GPU drivers? Sometimes leftover drivers can conflict with the new ones, causing issues. Also, while Ryzen 5700G is a solid CPU, being an APU, it could be a slight bottleneck. At 1440p, the bottleneck shouldn't be too drastic, though.

I haven’t done that yet. I just installed the new GPU and used the driver that came with it. Thanks for the advice!
