Why is my CPU overheating after upgrading my PC?

I've been upgrading my PC piece by piece and just transferred everything to a new case. I installed new fans and an AIO cooler, but now my CPU is running really hot. At startup, the temperatures reach 90-95 degrees Celsius, and it idles around 65-70 degrees. Even just launching Chrome pushes it to 75-80 degrees. Before I installed the new AIO cooler, I made sure to wipe off the old thermal paste and apply new paste. I'm wondering if I might have screwed the AIO cooler in too tight or if the thermal paste isn't applied right, although I think I did it correctly. Here are the parts I'm using: GIGABYTE B650 EAGLE AX, AMD Ryzen 5 7600, Radeon RX 7800 XT, Arctic P12 fans (3 blowing out), Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360 Pro (intake), and the Fractal North mid-tower case.

First off, did you remove the plastic cover from the pump block? That could definitely cause overheating. Also, make sure you used enough thermal paste and check if the pump is actually working, as it shouldn’t be too tight or loose on the CPU. If it looks fine, you might want to re-seat the AIO; a bad mount could lead to poor heat transfer.

I took the plastic off, and I applied what I thought was enough paste based on a guide. The pump seems to be working since fans are spinning and I heard that water noise on startup. Can you explain how a mount can go bad? I struggled a bit to get it attached since the screws didn’t want to bind at first.

Can you share specifics about your setup? What CPU, cooler, and case are you using? Some setups can be a little tricky, and we need the full picture to help you better.

Sure! I'm using a GIGABYTE B650 EAGLE AX motherboard, an AMD Ryzen 5 7600 processor, and a Radeon RX 7800 XT graphics card. The fans I have are Arctic P12 pros (3 going out), and the cooler is an Arctic Liquid Freezer III 360 Pro pulling air in. My case is the Fractal North mid-tower with mesh design.

What are your ambient temperatures like? If you’re in a warm area, your idle temps could be higher than expected, which might not help your situation.

I live in Denmark, so thankfully it’s not too hot here. I should be fine without needing additional coolers or fans!
