Why is my Ethernet only showing 100Mbps when my Xbox gets 500Mbps?

I'm having a frustrating issue with my PC's Ethernet connection. Despite my setup being capable of 1Gbps (I have a Realtek PCIe GbE Family Controller and use Cat6 cables), I'm only seeing speeds of 100Mbps. All my cables are tested and working fine. Interestingly, my Xbox, which is directly connected to the router, gets 500Mbps without any issues. I'm just not sure why my PC isn't matching that speed. Any thoughts?

What's your setup like? If you have a switch between your router and PC, that might be slowing things down. Switches indicate their connection speed, so check if there's one in your setup and if it's running at 100Mbps. Also, ensure all the copper wires in the cable are connected properly. If any are missing, it could limit you to 100Mbps.

How are you checking your speed on the PC? That could make a difference. Are you using a reliable speed test service?

I'm using OpenSpeedTest for my speed checks.

If you are using an older router, it’s possible that not all ports are gigabit-capable. I've seen setups with one high-speed port and a few slower ones. It might be worth trying different ports on your router to see if that changes anything for your PC and Xbox.

Have you checked if your network controller is set to gigabit speed or if it's on automatic? Sometimes setting it manually can help.

It's set to automatic, but I’ve also tried switching it to gigabit.
