Hey everyone! I ran into a strange issue with an Excel file (Office 2016/365) that was always unprotected but is now unexpectedly asking for a password from a specific user. I trust this user when she says she didn't set a password. To work around this, I opened the file in "read-only" mode and created a new file by using the "Save as" feature, but I'm really curious about what caused this. I've checked and there aren't any macros or locks on the properties, and the folder permissions are all set correctly. Plus, we're not syncing with OneDrive. Any thoughts on what might be going on? Oh, and we did find a solution related to an MS Security update that seems to be the culprit as the password prompt only started appearing after it was applied.

Glad you found the solution! It's wild how those updates can change things unexpectedly. It's good to keep an eye on those security updates, but they sure can cause some headaches!
I remember a situation like that once! Kids can be sneaky with passwords—they'll put them in without telling anyone! Maybe it’s worth checking if any previous versions might still be accessible since that can help if the current file is locked.
It sounds like someone might have accidentally set a password, even if they didn't realize it. I've seen that happen before. It could just be a small oversight! If that's not the case, maybe check again with the user and see if they remember any updates or changes they might have done recently.
