Why Is My First PC Build Underperforming?

I recently built my first PC with the help of a friend, aiming to create a solid mid-range gaming setup to move away from the less satisfying console experience. Despite having decent specs—AMD Ryzen 5 7600X, 32GB of RAM, and an AMD Radeon RX 6750 XT—I find the performance lacking and want to understand what I'm missing. I've noticed I'm using a projector instead of a monitor, and I also run the AMD Adrenaline Edition software, but I can't figure out how to use it effectively. I had mistakenly plugged my projector into the motherboard instead of the graphics card, which I hope may have contributed to the issue. Any thoughts on other potential missteps or improvements I can make?

First off, can you clarify "meh" performance? We need to know the specific games you're trying to play, the graphics settings, resolutions, and what frame rates you're getting. That'll help us pinpoint the issue better!

Sounds like a plan! I’ll get that info together.

Just a heads up, even though the RX 6750 XT should be able to outpace a PS5, keep in mind that many games are optimized for console performance. A solid PC can give you more control but might not always equal better performance right out of the gate with every title.

True! I just want to break free from being dictated by companies. I appreciate having more control on PC!

Check where your projector is plugged in. If it's into the motherboard, that means you're using integrated graphics instead of your GPU! Fixing that might give you a huge boost in performance. Also, make sure your BIOS is updated and that your GPU drivers are up to date!

Just figured that was the problem! I tried starting Cyberpunk after switching it, and wow, what a difference!

A big factor is that you're using a projector. While it might be great for movie nights, projectors often don't handle gaming as well as monitors do. I’d definitely recommend trying a monitor if you can, for better performance!

Yeah, I hear you. I’m planning on getting one soon!

It also might help to mention the resolution your projector runs at, and possibly which games/settings seem to lag. Optimization varies widely between console and PC, so it’d be good to know how that factors in with what you're experiencing.
