Hey everyone! My friend just got a new gaming laptop (HP Victus with a Core i5-13420H, 16 GB RAM, 512 GB SSD, and RTX 4050) and he's having some issues. While playing Cyberpunk, he noticed that the GPU usage is only around 10-15%. This also happened in GTA 5, a much older game, where he was only getting around 35-40 FPS. After lowering the graphics settings, he managed to boost his FPS to about 100-120, but his laptop has a 144Hz display so he feels like there's a lot more potential. He has already tried several suggestions he found online, so if you have any solutions, let me know, and I'll pass them along. Thanks!

Have you checked the GPU's temperature while gaming? If it's overheating, it may throttle performance. Keeping it below 70°C is generally good.

He says the max temperature is about 65°C, which sounds fine, but I'll check with him about GPU usage while the game is running.

Another thing to look into is the TDP of the RTX 4050. Different versions have different wattages. If he has the lower wattage version (like a 45W), that might explain the performance issues compared to the higher wattage versions (like 75W).

If you're still having issues, consider checking the power plan settings in Windows and ensuring they’re configured for performance. GPU power limits in the NVIDIA settings might also need adjustment. Also, BIOS settings can sometimes affect performance, so it’s worth checking if the PCI settings are optimized.

He thinks he’s set to performance mode and is plugged in, but I’ll tell him to look into the other suggestions.

Make sure all drivers are up to date. Run HP Support Assistant and check for any available updates. Also, ensure that Windows is updated with the latest patches. If problems persist, try using Display Driver Uninstaller (DDU) to completely uninstall the NVIDIA driver and then reinstall it directly from NVIDIA's website.

I’ll suggest he does that for sure.

First, check your Windows settings. Under Display and Advanced, ensure your screen is set to the max refresh rate and verify that it's using the dedicated GPU instead of the integrated graphics. It's also important to be plugged in and using a power plan that doesn't limit performance.

He mentioned that he already tried those steps, and the game confirms it's utilizing the GPU.
