Why Is My G Skill Ripjaws DDR4 Only Showing 32GB Instead of 64GB?

I'm building a new PC, and I've installed four sticks of G Skill Ripjaws DDR4 RAM. Each stick is labeled as 8x2, which I assumed meant I had 64GB total. However, my system only recognizes 32GB of RAM. I've verified that all sticks are properly installed since all four slots are being recognized. How can I get my total RAM to show as 64GB instead? Just to clarify, these sticks were purchased back in 2022, so I'm not just throwing money around here.

It looks like you might have misread the labeling on your RAM. Each stick labeled 8x2 indicates that it's part of a set with two sticks of 8GB each. You have four sticks total, so that adds up to 32GB. If you're aiming for 64GB, you'll need to grab additional RAM sticks—either buy two more 16GB sticks or another set of 4 sticks to match your setup.

The 8x2 label actually means you have two sticks of 8GB RAM in each pack, totaling 32GB when you have four sticks. So it's not a misconfiguration; you just have 32GB instead of 64GB. If you want 64GB, you'll need to buy more RAM—either two additional 16GB sticks or another pack of 32GB RAM. Just make sure your motherboard supports the upgrade!

Yeah, that’s right! If you already have sticks that are 8GB each, adding more of those will just duplicate what you already have. Just check your motherboard specs to confirm the max RAM it can handle!

You've got it right with 8+8+8+8 = 32GB. Each stick says 2x8, which just means it’s a set of 2 sticks that are 8GB. So, to increase your RAM, let’s look into either 16GB sticks or another 4-stick set. Just keep in mind your motherboard's memory capacity!
