Why is my gaming laptop randomly slowing down?

I have an ASUS ROG Strix G17 with an RTX 4060 that I've had for about three years. Lately, it randomly slows down for around five seconds while I'm doing different tasks, like listening to music or gaming. The audio gets distorted and crackly, and in games, there's a noticeable drop in FPS before it returns to normal. I've already updated all my drivers and completed all Windows updates, but I'm worried that something I might have downloaded is causing issues. I also wonder if this might be related to the occasional blue screen I'm experiencing. Can anyone help me figure out what's going on? I'm not very tech-savvy, so any tips would be greatly appreciated!

It sounds like your laptop might be experiencing some DPC (Deferred Procedure Call) latency spikes. A good tool to check this is LatencyMon. When you run it, keep an eye on the top driver causing the issues, which could be your Wi-Fi, GPU, or audio drivers. If you notice any spikes, try updating or rolling back that driver. Also, it’s worth running LatencyMon with Wi-Fi turned off to see if the problem persists. Good luck!

Thanks for the suggestion! I’ll give LatencyMon a go. I’m a bit confused about what you mean by noting the top driver and how to update or roll back—could you explain that part?
