Why is my GeForce 2080 struggling with 4K 120fps videos?

Hi everyone! I'm having a tough time with my gaming rig when it comes to playing 4K videos at 120fps. Here's my setup: I'm using an Intel Core i7-8700K CPU, a Prime H310M-A motherboard, and I have 32GB of RAM at 2400MHz. My graphics card is an NVIDIA GeForce RTX 2080 with 8GB of video memory. I also have a 500GB SSD and a 1TB HDD.

The specific video causing issues is a 4K 120fps file I recorded with my quadcopter, and it keeps stuttering while playing in VLC. I can manage 4K 60fps videos pretty well, but the 120fps playback is a mess. I'm wondering if there's any way to tweak settings on my GPU to improve performance or if it might be something like the HDMI cables I'm using.

Also, does anyone have opinions on whether a MacBook Pro M3 would outperform my current setup for video editing? I'm not earning from this just yet, but I hope to in the future! Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

Have you tried switching your video player? I had the same problems with VLC before, and it got solved when I deleted all its configuration files. I suggest giving MPV a go to see if it works better for you.

Yeah, I did give MPV a shot. It's a little better but still not great. I might just have to stick with 60fps for now since VLC and MPV handle those much better. Funny enough, I recorded another 120fps video with better lighting, and it plays perfectly.
