I'm really at a loss here. My girlfriend's university laptop suddenly can't access the web and displays the message "Your internet access is blocked". Every other device in the house works fine. I initially thought it might be our ISP blocking her device, but when I tried to hotspot her laptop, I got the same message. Her laptop has Windows Defender and a firewall, but she doesn't have admin rights to disable them since it's a university-owned device. We've already restarted both the laptop and the router. She's currently finishing up her PhD thesis, so this extra stress is really unwelcome. Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

I've had the same issue with my work laptop. It was a VPN problem that caused a similar block. What fixed it for me was doing a hard reboot by holding the power button for 10 seconds. After a quick snack break, I powered it back on and everything worked fine. So, my suggestion is to try a hard reboot first. Since it's a university laptop, it might be some VPN messing things up. If that doesn't work, your best option might be to contact their IT helpdesk.
Thanks for the tip! I'm going to give that a shot right now. We’ve also reached out to her IT helpdesk in the meantime.
