Why is my GPU spiking to 92% for a second?

I just built my first PC, and I have an AMD Ryzen 7 7800X3D, ASUS RX 9070 OC, 48GB DDR5 RAM, ASUS TUF Gaming B850-E WiFi, and an ASUS TUF 1200W power supply. While using the Armoury Crate software, I've noticed that my GPU usage sometimes drops to 0% and then suddenly jumps to 92%, marked in red. It only stays at 92% for a second before dropping back to 0%. Is this normal behavior for a GPU?

What are you doing when you see those spikes? If you're just sitting there, it could be a background process causing it. Check Task Manager to see which app is using the GPU.

I was actually downloading a game from Steam when the spikes happened.

It’s best to check the Task Manager to find out what's causing the spikes. It might be Armoury Crate or another process. Some people consider Armoury Crate to be unnecessary bloatware, so if it continues, you might want to look into alternatives like HWinfo for monitoring your GPU.

True, I noticed it was during a Steam download, so maybe that's it.
