I noticed something odd when copying files from one SSD to another: my GPU usage spikes to around 40%. I don't understand why my GPU would need to do anything for a simple file transfer. For context, my CPU usage increases slightly to about 5%, while both my SSDs are maxed out at 99% during the transfer, which is what I expect. But I'm puzzled about the GPU's involvement. Once the transfer finishes, the GPU drops back to its normal idle level of 1-3%. I tried searching for answers but found a lot of unrelated content.

That's a curious one! It might have to do with Windows' graphical interface during the file transfer. The transfer window uses some GPU resources for rendering; even if it seems minor, it can cause the spike you're seeing.
Maybe try minimizing that window next time or putting it behind another application and see if the GPU usage changes?
