Hey everyone,
I'm having a pretty frustrating issue with my HP Elitebook 845 G9 (with a Ryzen 5 Pro 6650U). The laptop works flawlessly when it's docked, but the moment I switch to battery power, it crashes randomly while using Windows 11—even under minimal load. The crashes happen unpredictably, anywhere from 2 to 15 minutes after I unplug it.
At first, I thought it was a battery issue since the laptop hadn't been used much unplugged, but I recently bought a new battery, and the crashes continue with that as well. I've already tried tweaking all the power settings in the BIOS to no avail. Interestingly, I ran a pre-boot CPU stress test from the HP Diagnostics, which completed without issues on battery power.
I'm starting to think this might be a Windows problem. I would really appreciate any troubleshooting tips or ideas since I'm running out of options!

Seeing that your system shows a critical kernel shutdown, it might be linked to how Windows is handling the battery management. Have you tried checking Windows stability in Safe Mode? Sometimes booting in Safe Mode can help rule out software conflicts, which might be causing those crashes.
It sounds like a tricky issue! Grab those dump files if you can; they’re essential for diagnosing BSODs. If you can boot into Windows normally or even Safe Mode, check the C:WindowsMinidump directory for any crash logs. If you find some, zip them up and upload them to a file sharing site—the more dump files you have, the better for analysis. Also, consider changing the dump type to a Small Memory Dump if you haven't already, as that could help with retention too.
