Hey folks! I updated my PC recently, and ever since then, my internet speed has taken a nosedive. I'm only getting about 15 Mbps on my PC, while my other devices are cruising along at around 600 Mbps. This issue happens whether I'm connected via Wi-Fi or with an ethernet cable. My LAN port is a Realtek 2.5Gb, and I'm using a CAT6 ethernet cable that works great on my laptop. Here's what I've tried so far:
- Resetting network settings with commands like netsh int ip reset, netsh winsock reset, and more.
- Updating drivers in Device Manager, although the internet driver was already up to date. I also updated the motherboard driver.
- Adjusting power management settings and disabling IPv6 in the Control Panel.
- Changing speed & duplex settings, testing various options.
- Uninstalling my VPN (NordVPN) and antivirus (Bitdefender).
My hardware is pretty new:
- AMD Ryzen 9800X3D 8-core processor
- TUF GAMING B850M-PLUS WIFI motherboard
- Kingston FURY Beast RGB 32 GB DDR5-6000 memory
- SAMSUNG 990 EVO Plus 2TB SSD
- NVIDIA GeForce RTX 5070 Ti graphics card.
Is there anything else I can try to fix this before resorting to a fresh Windows install? I'd really like to avoid that!

Hey! You definitely did a lot of troubleshooting already. It might be worth checking for any Windows-specific settings after the update that could affect your network. Sometimes, Windows Update can reset or change settings that impact performance. Also, try running the "Network Troubleshooter" in Windows. It can sometimes identify issues that aren’t immediately visible. If that doesn't help, you might also consider rolling back the update to see if that resolves the speed issues.
It sounds frustrating! Given that your other devices are running fine, the issue might be specific to your PC. Since you've already reset your network settings and updated drivers, have you tried disabling any background applications that might be hogging bandwidth? Sometimes, certain apps can cause unexpected slowdowns after updates. Also, check your network adapter settings to ensure there’s nothing unusual there, like "QoS Packet Scheduler" being enabled, which can sometimes limit speed. Good luck!
