Why is my internet speed so slow when using an Ethernet switch?

I've noticed a big drop in my internet speed when connecting through a Netgear unmanaged gigabit switch. When I directly connect to the router, I get around 800mbps, but with the switch, it plummets to just 15mbps. The switch is connected to a 1gb port on the router, and the only other device connected to it is a powered-off MioXL midi interface. Is there something I need to configure, or is it supposed to just work as soon as I plug it in? Any suggestions would be appreciated!

Don't forget, it’s possible the switch itself might be defective. If you have another switch lying around, it's worth testing with that to rule out any hardware issues.

It sounds like the issue could be related to the Ethernet cables you're using. Sometimes connecting through a switch introduces extra cables, and if one of them is faulty, it can slow down your speeds significantly. Try swapping out the cables to see if that helps!

You might want to try a different port on the switch too. Many times, problems like these arise from bad connections or dirt on the contacts in the switch. A good contact cleaner spray can work wonders!

Thanks for the tip! I’ll definitely consider cleaning the contacts!
