Why Is My Laptop Running Out of Storage So Quickly?

I have Windows 11 on my OMEN laptop, and I've been dealing with some confusing storage issues. Recently, I noticed that around 60GB of space just vanished from my C drive, prompting me to uninstall RDR2, which didn't seem to help much. Then I downloaded Nightreign, hoping to swap 120GB for 20GB of space, but the next day when I opened Counter Strike, I got a Windows notification saying that my storage was critically low. I was shocked to discover only 21 MB left! It's driving me crazy. Could this be a malware issue, even though I stick to safe browsing? I've also checked for duplicate files without success. What should I do?

If nothing else works, consider doing a clean install of Windows rather than just reformatting. It's a bit drastic, but it can solve a lot of hidden problems. Just ensure that you back up anything important before proceeding! Also, if you see a folder taking up a lot of space, ask around in this community before deleting anything.

You might want to check for malware if you’re experiencing sudden storage issues. Using a dedicated malware removal tool could help, but if you're not visiting sketchy sites, it might be worth looking into other possibilities too.

Try using a tool like WizTree. It can help you see what's consuming your space. Just a heads up, game shader caches can take up a lot of room too, but if you clear them, you'll need to rebuild them later, which will eat up space again. Just be careful with what you decide to delete!

I had a similar issue with WizTree not showing much the first time. But when I finally opened it, I found 200GB of hidden space—what a relief!

Your comment might seem like an ad, but I definitely believe it! WizTree can be a game-changer.
