Why is my laptop stuttering and going to sleep while gaming?

I've got a Razer 14 with a 3080, and it's been having some issues lately. When I'm gaming—especially on demanding titles like Tekken 8 and Baldur's Gate 3—it stutters often. Sometimes it even goes into a sleep mode when I enter the main menu of these games. I've also noticed the keyboard dims momentarily during the stuttering. Is this just because my laptop is getting old? Any insights would be appreciated!

You should definitely try using some monitoring software to check your temperatures. If overheating is the issue, a deep clean and some fresh thermal paste might help. Also, since your keyboard dims, there could be a problem with power delivery or the battery. Keep an eye on that, too!

I've noticed that when I boot into Tekken 8 without the power adapter, everything runs fine. But as soon as I plug it in, the keyboard starts dimming a lot. I think my power adapter might be on the fritz; the cord is fraying in one spot.

It sounds like your laptop might be overheating and thermal throttling, which could cause those stutters and the sleep mode. Have you checked if it's getting too hot during gameplay? That could definitely be a factor.
