Why is my M.2 Gen 4 SSD running at such low speeds?

I recently bought an ADATA Premium M.2 Gen 4 SSD for my PS5, which has 99% health, at a great price of $93 CAD (about $68 USD). While some games like SF6 load noticeably faster, I'm concerned because the read speeds seem to be only about 25% of what was advertised. My motherboard is an Aorus X470 Ultra Gaming, and according to the specs, I have two M.2 slots. It looks like I'm using the M2B socket that supports PCIe 2.0 x4, which might be causing the slow speeds. I couldn't find much info on the generation for the M2B socket. Can anyone help clarify if using this slot could really be the issue?

It sounds like you're on the right track. The M.2 Gen 4 SSD you're using is designed to operate at PCIe 4.0 x4 speeds, but if it's plugged into a socket that only supports PCIe 2.0 x4, you're definitely not getting its full potential. The speeds are capped at about 25% of what you'd expect from a Gen 4 drive. You should try moving it to the other slot that supports PCIe 3.0. It should significantly improve your speeds, but keep in mind you still won't hit Gen 4 speeds in that slot.

Makes absolute sense! When you put a PCIe 4.0 SSD in a PCIe 2.0 slot, you're really limiting the performance. If your motherboard allows it, switching to the PCIe 3.0 slot should definitely give you a noticeable boost, though it won't be the max speed of a Gen 4 SSD. You should notice a good improvement once you make that change!
