Why is my M.2 Gen 4 SSD running so slowly?

I recently bought an ADATA premium M.2 Gen 4 SSD for my PS5, which has 99% health, for just 93 CAD (68 USD). While some games like SF6 load significantly faster, I'm concerned because the speed seems to be only about 25% of what is advertised. I'm using an Aorus X470 Ultra Gaming motherboard, and according to the specs on the manufacturer's website, the second M.2 socket (M2B) supports PCIe 2.0 x4. I'm starting to wonder if using this socket is limiting my SSD's performance, but I couldn't find any clear information on the actual capabilities of the M2B socket. What do you think?

Yeah, that definitely makes sense. You're putting a PCIe 4 drive into a PCIe 2 slot, which halves the bandwidth you can access. Moving it to a PCIe 3 slot should improve things quite a bit, but you still won't hit the max speeds of the SSD. Just make sure your motherboard supports PCIe 3.0 and that you're correctly seated it in the right slot!

Your M.2 Gen 4 SSD is designed for PCIe 4.0 x4, but since you're using it in the M2B socket, which only supports PCIe 2.0 x4, that's where your speed loss is coming from. Essentially, you're only getting about 25% of the performance you should be, since PCIe 2.0 is much slower than PCIe 4.0. Switching to a PCIe 3.0 slot should help you get closer to 50% of the SSD's potential speed, but it still won't reach the full advertised performance of the drive.
