Why is my microphone not working with my new iPhone in the car?

Hey everyone! I just upgraded from an iPhone XR to the iPhone 16e, and I'm having a weird issue. I use a dual charger/aux cord in my car that lets me charge my phone and listen to music at the same time, but when I plug in my new phone, it disables the microphone, and I can't use dictation anymore.

I've been looking online, and people are suggesting it could be the cord or the software. I saw a tip about resetting the USB settings and trying to select 'headphones' instead of 'other device'. I'm planning to try that during my lunch break, but if it doesn't work, I could really use some advice. I found several dual cables that mentioned not supporting the microphone, so I'm worried I might need to replace this cord. Any help would be appreciated! Thanks in advance!

Have you checked if your charger/aux cord is TRS (Tip Ring Sleeve) or TRRS (Tip Ring Ring Sleeve)? That could be a reason for the microphone issue. If it's TRS, it won't support the microphone. Make sure to get a TRRS cable if you want microphone support.

Thanks for your reply! I actually don’t know how to tell the difference. Any tips on that?
