I just got a new laptop for school and decided to install Minecraft, but I'm only getting around 30 FPS when playing vanilla 1.21. It's strange because I'm managing to get a steady 165 FPS (with VSync) while playing a heavy modpack that my main PC struggles to run. Can anyone explain why the vanilla version is performing so poorly for me? Any tips on how to improve this?

If you're loving the overall experience of the modpack's performance, why not just tweak it? You could strip down the modpack to just keep the performance enhancements for a similar vanilla feel.
Have you tried lowering the resolution and draw distance? Play in fullscreen rather than windowed; it can make a noticeable difference. But it sounds odd that you're capped at 30 FPS, even with maxed settings.
First off, can you share your laptop specs? That could help in diagnosing the issue. Sometimes, certain hardware combinations can affect performance in unexpected ways.
