Whenever I'm home from college, I struggle with how slow the WiFi is at my mom's place. Loading Instagram, Snapchat, and other apps takes forever, and downloading an 11GB game update for my PS5 is estimated to take over 24 hours! My mom claims she's never had these issues, but my devices work fine on WiFi at college. Is there a reason why my devices might be having such a poor connection? Or could it just be that my mom doesn't realize how bad her WiFi really is? My iPhone is newer than hers, so I doubt it's a WiFi version issue. I've tried connecting in different spots around the apartment, but it hasn't helped. We have a Fios 1 Gig plan—any suggestions on how to fix this?

Let's be real—your mom probably isn't downloading massive game updates like you are, lmao! What seems slow to you might be perfectly fine for her—just ask her what she typically does online and see if that gives you any insight.
Definitely run speed tests on your devices and compare them. It’s possible your mom isn’t noticing the slow speeds because she might not actually be using the WiFi for anything that demands high speed. If she's doing casual stuff, it might seem fine to her.
Have you checked if your mom's devices are on a different network band? Like, if you're on 2.4GHz and she's on 5GHz, that could affect speeds—especially if her devices are older. You should also run a speed test on both your devices to see if there's a noticeable difference. Maybe she's just used to slower speeds and doesn't realize how bad it is!
Honestly, you should just make sure your mom checks her WiFi connection. Sometimes phones might default to mobile data if the WiFi is bad, and she might not even know it! A quick speed test on her device could clear things up.
Good point, I'll ask her to check that!

Haha true! I’ll do that.
