Why is my monitor only showing display when connected directly to the graphics card?

I recently started using a VGA to HDMI adapter, but I'm having issues with my monitor. Initially, everything worked nicely, but after the Windows startup screen, the display goes completely black. The monitor functions correctly only when the VGA cable is directly connected to the graphics card, without using the adapter. What might be causing this issue?

Just a heads up, make sure you're not connecting the adapter to anything other than the graphics card. Ideally, it should be plugged directly into the graphics card for the best performance.

It’s important to clarify which type of adapter you’re using, since "VGA to HDMI" requires an externally powered adapter, while "HDMI to VGA" is usually just a simple dongle. Which one do you have? And are you plugging it into the correct HDMI port: the graphics card, motherboard, or the monitor itself?

Have you tried booting your PC in Safe Mode or at a lower resolution? There’s a chance that your adapter isn’t compatible with the refresh rate set for your display; that could explain why it goes black after startup.

You might want to check if your integrated graphics drivers are up to date or if they're even installed. If the system is trying to use the integrated graphics instead of the dedicated GPU, that could cause display issues.
