I recently upgraded my gaming PC and I'm really frustrated with the performance drop compared to my old setup. I have an AMD Ryzen 7 9800X3D CPU, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 3060 graphics card, PRIME X870P WIFI motherboard, MAG P850GL PSU, and 64GB of Crucial Pro DDR5 RAM. Surprisingly, many of my games run worse now than they did on my previous rig, which was older hardware. For instance, while playing ICBM Escalation, I'm struggling to get 20fps even when looking at just a few 3D models. Task manager shows that I'm using only 2GB of VRAM at 100% utilization, which seems off. I'm really lost on what's causing this issue, so any help would be appreciated!

You might want to check where your display cable is plugged in. If it’s connected to the motherboard instead of the GPU, that could cause the issue you’re seeing. And doing a fresh Windows install with new hardware is a good idea to avoid driver conflicts.
Exactly! The GPU needs to be active for it to perform right.
Honestly, it's puzzling why you paired the 9800X3D with a 3060. While the 3060 is a nice upgrade from a 1030, it just can’t keep up with that powerful CPU. This setup might feel like trying to run a Ferrari engine in a less capable car—your CPU is definitely waiting for the GPU to catch up. You might want to check if your drivers are updated and see if any background processes are hogging resources.
Right? The CPU should definitely outperform your last setup, so something doesn’t add up here.
You got that right! Make sure you optimize everything on your new build.
Your setup is definitely skewed due to the mismatch between your CPU and GPU. The 9800X3D is top-tier, while the 3060 is more of an entry-level card now. For optimal performance, you might want to think about upgrading your GPU to match your CPU's capabilities. Plus, don't forget to check your RAM speed and ensure it’s running as it should.
I completely agree! Ensuring everything is configured correctly can make a huge difference.
For real! Looking at benchmarks can guide your next GPU choice.
From what you're describing, your GPU is likely the bottleneck. The 3060 is a solid card, but when paired with such a strong CPU, it's likely that you're not getting the best performance. It's surprising that your new system is underperforming. Check for thermal issues and consider monitoring your GPU usage while gaming to see if it’s being maxed out.
Definitely worth checking out! Also, make sure you have the latest drivers installed from NVIDIA.
Exactly! If you’re hitting those usage numbers, it can clarify a lot.

That’s a classic mistake! I've done that before too, not fun.
