Why Is My New GPU Struggling With Low FPS and Mouse Lag?

I recently upgraded my GPU to a PNY 5060 after my old one failed. I've got an i7-12700F CPU, a B760m ds3h motherboard, a 650W Bronze power supply, and 16GB of RAM. After reinstalling Windows, my PC crashed several times, which led me to think the GPU was faulty. After taking it to a repair shop and having the GPU swapped, I expected things to be smoother. However, now I'm experiencing extremely low FPS on my desktop, which feels like around 3 FPS, even though in-game my performance seems normal, fluctuating between 250-500 FPS. It's puzzling because the low performance seems to disappear after about 30 minutes of usage. I've tried DDU for a clean install of the NVIDIA drivers and adjusted my refresh rate to 165Hz, but the problem persists. It feels like my PC needs to 'warm up' before it functions correctly. Startup tasks are disabled, and I just need some ideas on what might be causing these issues.

Sounds like a thermal issue might not be your problem but rather something with drivers or power management. Try checking if your GPU settings in the NVIDIA control panel are set correctly—like ensuring they aren't set to power-saving mode. Also, check your power supply connections to the GPU and motherboard; make sure everything is snug. Sometimes, a funky power issue can cause the GPU to throttle or underperform at startup, leading to your low FPS.

I had a similar issue before, and adjusting the power settings in Windows helped a lot. Make sure your PC isn't set to power-saving modes for performance. It might be a simple fix that could help with that startup lag!

It's great that your temps are low, but have you checked to see if the GPU needs an additional power connection? Sometimes, making sure all the necessary power connections are secure can prevent odd performance issues. Also, occasionally the GPU might require a BIOS update if there are known issues with certain drivers.

Yeah, definitely check for a BIOS update. I ran into performance issues that were fixed with a newer version. And as for those fluctuating FPS in games, sometimes it’s just the game engine tweaking performance settings based on perceived load.
