Why is my new laptop suffering from slow internet speeds?

I recently got a Lenovo LOQ 15irx10, and I'm facing a frustrating internet speed issue. When I have more than two applications open, my wifi speed drops to around 10mbps and stays low until I restart the laptop. I have an ethernet cable connected, and when I reboot, my internet speed returns to about 900mbps, which is what I'm paying for at home. Previously, I used a 2022 ASUS TUF without running into any of these issues. The laptop specs are: Lenovo LNVNB161216 (FP8) with Nvidia GeForce RTX 5050, an AMD Ryzen 7 250 with Radeon 780M Graphics, and 16GB of DDR5 RAM. I'm using the Realtek PCle GbE Family controller driver that came installed. Any help would be greatly appreciated! 😢

Have you checked if the same problem occurs when you're using an ethernet cable? Sometimes, the issue might be with the network settings or the wifi adapter itself. It's worth verifying if you're getting the slow speeds regardless of your connection type.

I always keep the ethernet cable connected, that's exactly the issue!

Could you clarify the situation a bit more? When you say the wifi drops to ~10mbps, are you saying that happens even when you only have wifi connected? Also, have you tried to reinstall or update the Realtek ethernet driver directly from their official site? Sometimes pre-installed drivers can cause issues, so it's worth checking.

I've tried bridging the connections before but it flagged as 'untrustworthy'. The same lag occurs whether I'm on just wifi, just ethernet, or both at the same time.

What method are you using to test your internet speed? Using tools like Ookla's Speedtest is a good way to check before and after scenarios, especially since you mentioned disconnecting during online gaming—those results could help pinpoint the problem.

Yeah, I've been using Ookla Speedtest multiple times, so I’m confident in the results. My internet cuts out during online games every couple of minutes.
