Why is my new RTX 5070 performing worse than my old GTX 1070 Ti?

I recently got an RTX 5070 from Amazon during a sale, hoping to upgrade from my GTX 1070 Ti which I bought in 2019. I thought the new GPU would significantly improve my experience, especially for AI art generation. But after swapping them out, my new card crashed my PC repeatedly and underperformed massively in benchmarks. The 5070 was delivering single-digit FPS on high settings, while the 1070 Ti was consistently over 130 FPS. I'm certain nothing else in my build has changed—everything else was working fine before the GPU switch. I ran some tests and checked MSI Afterburner, which showed no major issues like overheating or bottlenecks. At one point, I discovered that I needed two PCI-E cables for the 5070, which I managed to connect. I'm puzzled and would love to hear what might be going wrong or if I potentially have a faulty unit. I tried uninstalling and reinstalling the drivers, but I picked the wrong ones at first. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!

What model of PSU are you using? Sometimes power supply issues can mess with performance. Also, what kind of cables are you using? Make sure they’re suited for your setup.

I realize now that my PSU isn’t the best quality, but thankfully it was just driver issues that caused my troubles!
