Why Is My New SSD’s Disk Usage So Erratic?

Hey folks! I recently upgraded my laptop from a 500GB SSD to a 1TB SSD because I was running out of space. I removed the old drive and installed the new one, and I also used a USB drive to install Windows 11. Everything looked good at first, but now I'm noticing that the disk usage in Task Manager keeps fluctuating between 5% and 80%, which is something I didn't experience with the old SSD. Additionally, when I'm playing games, it runs smoothly for a couple of seconds before freezing and stuttering. I'd love to get some insights on why this is happening. If you need more details, just let me know! Here are my laptop specs: HP Victus, 16 GB RAM, NVMe PCIe 4.0 M.2 1TB SSD (older model according to Device Manager), i5 - 12th Generation processor, RTX 4050 graphics card.

You might want to check if your new SSD has DRAM cache. This can really affect performance. If it doesn't, it could explain the erratic disk usage you're seeing. To check this, you can look up the SSD's specifications on the manufacturer's website.

Have you done a fresh install of Windows? If so, you should make sure to download the latest drivers directly from the manufacturer. Updating or reinstalling the chipset driver can often help with performance issues like this.
