Why is my PC capped at 144 FPS?

I just built my PC, and I've noticed that my frame rate is capping at 144 FPS in games, even though I know my hardware is capable of delivering more. I also have a silent build, so I'm wondering if there's a setting causing this limit. Can anyone help me troubleshoot?

It sounds like your monitor might be set to 144Hz, or you may have V-Sync enabled, which could be limiting your frame rate. If you're using a 144Hz monitor, check your display settings to see if V-Sync is toggled on.

It's actually a 165Hz monitor, but I think I do have V-Sync on. I'll check that!

Your monitor specs are important here. If it displays at 144Hz, that could be the max you’ll get unless you switch up your cables or settings. Check if there are any overclock settings available in your monitor's menu too!

Make sure your monitor is actually running at 165Hz. Sometimes, certain cables can restrict the refresh rate. If you're using HDMI, consider switching to a DisplayPort (DP) cable, as many monitors can cap at 144Hz with HDMI.

Wait, so I should use a DP cable instead? Got it, I’ll try that!
