Why Is My PC Making a High-Pitched Noise After Shutdown?

Hey everyone, I was gaming on my PC earlier today, and after shutting it down, it suddenly started making a really loud high-pitched sound. It was so annoying! I even tried tapping the case to see if it would stop (don't judge me!). I ended up cutting power to the whole thing, and thankfully the noise stopped. But when I turned the power back on, I noticed some fans inside started spinning. After a few more tries, I managed to turn my PC on and off, and finally, it shut down properly this time. This has only happened once after about three regular shutdowns. I was playing Baldur's Gate 3 before shutting it down, which is quite demanding for my not-so-great setup. Is this normal, or should I be worried about it? I couldn't find anything specific online about this issue, so here I am! Oh, and just to add, the noise has gone away for now, and I've made sure my PC is dust-free and has been off for a good half-hour to cool down.

It sounds like you might be experiencing something known as coil whine. This can happen with some graphics cards and components, especially under heavy load like gaming. Unfortunately, there's usually no fix for coil whine, but it's generally harmless. Just keep an eye on it in case it happens more frequently.

I don’t think that’s it either. The noise you described sounds more like an alarm or warning signal, especially since it started after shutdown. Maybe there’s something else going on? It’s good that the noise stopped for now!
