I just built a simple media PC using some old parts, but I've noticed that Windows is only recognizing half of my installed memory. Is this normal? Could it be related to my APU setup, or is it possibly a Windows 11 issue? Here are my specs: A10-6800k APU, 4x4GB GSkill DDR3 2400MHz RAM, MSI A88XM Gaming Motherboard, Lexar 120GB SSD, WD Blue 500GB, Corsair VS450 power supply, and I'm running Windows 11 Pro. I've tried reseating and swapping RAM sticks and unchecking 'maximum memory' in the boot settings. Any help would be appreciated!

It's common for systems with iGPUs to set aside memory for graphics tasks. You might be able to change how much is reserved in BIOS settings. Just be cautious about lowering it too much, as it can impact performance.
Your issue likely stems from the integrated GPU (iGPU) in your APU. It reserves some of your RAM for graphics. You can tweak that amount in the BIOS settings. The memory reservation might be what's causing Windows to show less available memory. Check the internal GPU settings to see how much is reserved for it!
The memory you're seeing as reserved is likely being used as VRAM for graphics. If you're reaching memory limits, consider adding an 8GB stick to your setup if you can. DDR3 is pretty affordable, and that could improve your situation significantly!
To regain more usable memory, try setting the hardware reserved RAM to 512MB or less in your BIOS. That should help you get back most of your 7.5GB of usable RAM.

Thanks! I checked that, but it only lets me set it to a maximum of 2GB. Setting it to 1GB still shows 1GB reserved, which is frustrating.
