Why is my PC randomly shutting off and struggling to start?

I've been having issues with my PC shutting off unexpectedly. It started about a week ago, where it would sometimes turn off after a couple of hours. But over the weekend, it's gotten worse and I'm rarely able to make it past the startup screen. When I try to turn it on, it runs for a few seconds, shuts off, then powers back up, and keeps repeating this cycle until I unplug it or switch it off from the back. If it stays off for a bit before I turn it on again, it usually stays powered for longer. I've monitored the temperatures, so I don't think it's overheating. One odd thing is that when I turn it on from the back or plug it in, it powers up by itself without me pressing the button.

Here's what I've tried so far:
1. Replaced the power supply
2. Checked that all cables and hardware are connected properly
3. Unplugged all peripherals, including the graphics card and RAM
4. Disconnected the front panel to eliminate possible power switch issues, since the motherboard can also power on by itself
5. Used different outlets and power strips

My hardware specs are:
- Motherboard: GA-Z170X-Gaming GT
- GPU: GeForce RTX 2080 Ti
- Power Supply: Corsair RM1000e

I'm starting to suspect it might be a motherboard issue, but I'm not entirely sure.

It sounds like a frustrating issue! I’d suggest trying to reset the BIOS settings. You can do this by entering the BIOS menu, removing the battery, or clearing the CMOS using the jumper on your motherboard. If you have one stick of RAM, try booting with just that, and experiment with different slots since the manual isn't clear on that.

Gotcha, thanks! I think I’ll start with the CMOS reset. If the MBIOS LED is lit, that might suggest a motherboard problem too, right?

Definitely keep an eye on that LED. It could indicate something's up with the BIOS. Let us know how it goes!
