Why is my PC reacting to static electricity and shutting off?

I've been having an issue where my PC sometimes shuts off when I walk around my desk or get up quickly. Just today, while I was gaming, all my monitors suddenly went black, and I received a fatal error message. This issue seemed to escalate yesterday when I was folding clothes; the static from that even lit up my mouse for a moment. My PC is plugged into a surge protector, but should I be worried about this?

Yeah, you definitely should be worried. It sounds like your setup isn't properly grounded, which can be risky. Static electricity can cause problems for your components if it's not managed well.

Absolutely, you should be checking if the surge protector is worn out or not grounded properly. This static issue suggests it could be causing tiny power fluctuations, leading to your GPU crashing. Make sure to reseat all your connections and minimize static buildup. If it keeps happening, try plugging directly into a wall outlet that’s grounded.

Have you checked whether your surge protector is still functioning properly? If it's leaning away from the wall, it might not be grounded correctly. Consider getting a ground tester to see if everything's wired up right. That could solve your problem.

I suspect it might be the surge protector since it doesn't seem to sit flush against the wall.

I'd recommend having your house wiring checked for proper grounding as soon as you can. This might be the root of your problems.
