I've noticed that my PC has been slowing down quite a bit recently, to the point where I'm experiencing freezes and getting below 60 FPS while playing League of Legends, which shouldn't be taxing given my specs. I initially thought running three monitors was overloading my CPU, so I disconnected one, but there wasn't much of an improvement. I'm considering formatting my m.2 drive where Windows is installed to see if that helps, but I've read mixed opinions on whether this is actually effective. My temperatures seem fine, both under load and at idle. Here are my specs for reference:
- Ryzen 3700x cooled by a 280mm AIO
- 3070 graphics card
- 32GB of DDR4 at 3200MHz
- 2TB hard drive
- 1TB m.2
- 500GB SSD
- A solid ROG motherboard (not an entry model)
- 650W power supply
I'd appreciate any help from anyone who can offer advice!

First thing I'd recommend is to monitor your CPU and GPU usage. When your system is idle, both should be around 0%. While gaming, your GPU usage should ideally be over 90%, unless you have something like V-Sync or an FPS cap enabled. It’s also worth checking your SSD and HDD health using a tool like CrystalDiskInfo. Sometimes a failing drive can cause major slowdowns without obvious symptoms. Just keep an eye on those usage numbers!
If your CPU and GPU are showing idle usage above 10%, that could indicate there's something running in the background that's using your resources. You might want to check for any unnecessary programs or processes that are hogging power.
