Why is my PC underperforming according to benchmarks?

I recently ran a performance test using UserBenchmark and it appears that my PC isn't performing as well as it should be. I'm relatively new to the world of PC building and optimization, and I'm not sure what the results mean or how to improve performance. Can anyone help me identify why this might be happening and suggest potential fixes?

UserBenchmark is often criticized for its accuracy, so take those results with a grain of salt. Have you checked the background processes running on your system? For better benchmarking, consider using tools like Cinebench for CPU tests and Superposition for GPU. You can also run actual games with built-in benchmarking modes, like Cyberpunk or Shadow of the Tomb Raider, to get a better idea of your performance.

I checked and other than Steam and Opera, nothing else is running that could drain resources. I did get a score of 6000 on 3DMark for my CPU/GPU combo, but I've seen that similar setups score above 7000.

It's likely that your GPU is underperforming. Make sure your monitor is connected to your GPU and not the motherboard. Also, check if your GPU is in the top PCIe slot. While UserBenchmark isn't totally useless, I'd recommend running more focused tests like 3DMark TimeSpy or Unigine Superposition to really understand how your hardware is doing.

It is connected to the GPU and in the correct slot. I'm planning to clear some space on my NVMe and run those benchmarks; on 3DMark, my score was pretty low too, around 6000.

Honestly, UserBenchmark isn't very reliable. The benchmarks they're showing can be confusing; often your parts can be rated above 100% but still show low performance in the summary. Use HWInfo64 to check if your components are overheating, as high temperatures can throttle performance. Additionally, how full is your NVMe SSD? If it's nearly full, that can also lead to performance issues. You should definitely run some proper benchmarks like 3DMark and compare with others.

I don't think overheating is an issue—my temps are around 40-50°C. But my NVMe is quite full, only about 50GB left. I’ll clean it up and try running 3DMark.
